In the Cedars health program, the students establish skills that will enable them to make safe and healthy choices throughout their lives. The program is a progression of information and learning that meets the needs of this age group. Our focus is primarily based upon the Cedars themes, which hold the philosophy that when students have accurate information and build self advocacy skills, they can make better choices for themselves and be more responsible members of the community.
The Health Lifestyle Choices (HLC) Middle School curriculum is the curriculum that is used and is guided by the national health standards. The seventh and eighth graders will be split up according to their grade and will attend class for 45 minutes twice a week. The following concepts will be covered this year:
Health/Wellness
Environment/Caring for our Planet
Meal Etiquette
Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
Stress Management
Injury Prevention/Violence
Diseases and Disorders
Health classes will include building strategies, activities and discussions that integrate health education. We'll be using students handouts, worksheets and short and long term assignments to introduce key elements. Assessments include journaling, performance tasks, vocabulary, role play and presentations.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
