Traditions and Celebrations

This is a favorite time of year in Trillium, when the students are eagerly anticipating the upcoming holidays. We have enjoyed discussing the similarities and differences in our celebrations, and thinking about why we celebrate holidays. We've been reading books about various Christmas celebrations and traditions, comparing them to the celebrations in our own families. Next week we will be looking at how Christmas is celebrated around the world, in addition to the various holidays celebrated in other cultures this time of year.

One of the books we read was called The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola. Inspired by the Mexican legend, we created our own poinsettia art. These beautiful pieces are displayed outside of our classroom, and will be sent home before break for our families to enjoy.

In writing, we held a museum to showcase our show and tell pieces. The students shared how they added detailed drawings and labels to show their favorite objects. For the next part of the unit, students are creating show and tell books, writing about favorite places.

Ask me abouts:

- How do you make tally marks?

- What is your show and tell writing about?
